Transportation

Booking your airtickets

There are many websites one can use to search for air tickets. There are advantages and disadvantages when using online bookings systems, however if you want to do this on your own, then we suggest that you weigh up the options which you feel are best suited for you when booking online.

You could also use a local agent or of course you can email us to assist you with the booking of your entire trip.

Deciding to rent a car

Before you decide if you want to rent a car just remember that in South Africa we drive on the left side of the road and for some people this might be a little worrying.

If it is then just call us to arrange a transfer for you: +27 83 436 8552 or email us.

The self-driving option is a viable and enjoyable way to get around the country. South Africa has an excellent road infrastructure, large vehicle hire fleets run by international and local rental companies, great weather and plenty of stunning scenery. If you're thinking of taking the long way round Intle Boutique Hotel and Private Reserve make an ideal basecamp from which to explore.

Entering & Leaving South Africa

There are many countries that are exempt from needing a tourist visa for South Africa so please check the link and see if your country is exempt. If you are required to apply for a visitors visa and each application is treated as an individual case, you should make enquiries with your nearest South African consulate abroad to determine what is required to apply for a visa from your country. Please click here for more information.

Handy Information

Paying with Cash and Credit Cards

Both are acceptable payment options in South Africa and readily accepted at Intle Lodge.

Mobile Phones

You can either setup roaming before you visit or buy a SIM card for a local network when you get here. You can use: https://b4i.travel/za/

Electricity

Most Modern electronic equipment has a voltage range of 110V - 230V.

In South African our power supply is 220/230 Volts AC 50 Hertz. This means that if your modern electronic equipment falls within these ranges as specified on the equipment, then there should be no problem to use your equipment in South Africa.

If you do forget your adaptor, then we will gladly assist you while you stay with us. You can also purchase the adapters usually at your international Airport.

Security

You might have concerns about secuity and safety in South Africa.

We are very happy to be based just outside Jeffreys Bay at the start of the Garden Route and can say that the whole Eastern Cape right down to Cape Town has no more or less crime than any other place in the world. In any part of the world tourists are “easy targets” to get pick pocketed and for this reason no matter where you go in the world, you should always be alert.

Do not hesitate to contact us, If you have any concerns or questions and we can guide you to have the most amazing holiday ever.

Tipping

The informal economy is an important part of South African life; do what you can to help the hustle, but it is not advised to over tip and of course a tip is a gesture that you still can decide if you want to give or not.

In our economy staff do rely on tips, but we still feel they have to go that extra mile to deserve a tip.

Smoking

The law has changed a couple of years ago, banning smoking in restaurants, unless the smoking section was separated by way of glass. When booking a restaurant or going into a restaurant you will be asked if you want to sit in “smoking” or “non-smoking”.

You can feel secure that if you are a non-smoker, that you will not be disturbed by the smokers as they will be sitting in a “separate smoking room”. However in many pubs they are considered to be “smoking pubs” and people will be smoking at the bar without any “separation”.

Smoking in the streets is permitted, but we do ask that you do not leave your cigarette butts in the street.

Smoking at Intle is permitted within the designated areas, but we ask that you do not smoke during a game drive or even if you go for a walk. Fire hazards are always a threat and also our animals graze the land and we don’t want them to be eating up cigarette butts.
